Macaroni Grill rosemary bread recipe - 12-29-2009, 06:42 PM

We ate there yesterday, and I loved the bread so much that I decided to try and find it online. Someone made an "imitation" one that is out of this world! Made it tonight for my family (all giving it an A+++) along with spaghetti and a caesar salad and of course, I had to take a picture.

It was found at recipezaar.com and was posted by Hunter. I made it exactly as it said except I replaced half the white flour with whole grain pastry flour (found at health food stores). It makes it a bit healthier and easily replaces white flour in all my recipes because it's so light.

Be sure and use fresh rosemary. Enjoy!

Macaroni Grill Rosemary Bread
Makes 2 small round loaves

1 T yeast (1 pkg)
1 T sugar
1 c warm water
2-2 1/2 c flour
1 t salt
2 T fresh rosemary, chopped
2 T butter

1) Place yeast, sugar and water in a bowl and whisk together. Let sit till it becomes bubbly (about 5 min). Mix in 1 T butter, salt, 2 cups flour and 1 T of rosemary. Knead for 5 minutes or put in a food processor until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if necessary.
2) Put dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place (I set my oven to the lowest temp and then turn off and leave door open a bit) till double in size, about an hour.
3) Punch down the dough, divide in half and let rest for 5 min. Pour olive oil into two rounds on a cookie sheet, shape the dough into two round loaves and put in the middle of the olive oil. Sprinkle remaining rosemary on top and press into dough. Sprinkle with more salt if desired.
4) Put in a warm place again until doubled, about 45 min. Bake at 375 for 15-20 min. until lightly browned. Brush with remaining butter when you take them out.

I don't know how it tastes, but it looks exactly like it. I just ate, and now I'm hungry.

whats funny is that I was showing this to a coworker as I opened the thread and said the same exact thing.

"It looks good, and damn I just ate but that is making me hungry all over.".

I made this last night and it turned out awesome. I'm not really much of a baker, but it wasn't hard to make at all. The only change I made was using dried rosemary instead of fresh, but everybody who has tried it says it tastes just like the restaurant. Thanks for the recipe, I'll definitely be making this again.

Oh, I'm so glad it turned out good for you! Anyone can do it, and it's so well worth it!
