I met this wonderful lady a while ago. Our first date was a disaster. We were headed out to the park for a summer evening concert at the lakeside bandshell. Just as we approach the parking lot, my pager goes off, and I explain I have to take a raincheck, offering to drop her off at her place. At the time I was a part of the city's Red Cross Disaster Team. Well, she was interested in tagging along. After explaining FD protocol, we arrived on the scene and assisted a single mom and her daughter, displaced due to a single family fire. After seeing to their needs, we packed up, completed the paperwork over a cup of coffee at a local restaurant and dropped by the chapter office, leaving us a little time for much more than a, "Goodnight." Oh, yes, and a kiss.
Shortly after we were married, my mother immediately noticed that I dressed better. Marla's been there for me over the years, allowing me to provide for her, together care for our family, and have some great fun along the way, too. She's an unceasing source of inspiration and I am amazed with her creativity.
