It's pretty cool, unfortunately not on the this side of the planet, only visible to Asia/Europe/Africa.

No, we can see the second full Moon for the month here in Texas, heck it was almost full yesterday and looked great here in Dallas. Wait take that back we may not see it hear in the DFW area because of CLOUDS!

It rises in late afternoon BTW.

?

I think the full moon will rise this evening over here, too.

Some parts of the world will also get a partial lunar eclipse tonight, but that has nothing to do with what constitutes a "blue moon". A blue moon is a second full moon in a calendar month.

Yeah, a blue moon is nothing spectacular to see, it's just a regular full moon. The only thing significant is it happens twice in one month. No big deal really.

I don't know that I was set up "right", but I did snap a few. I had to really crop in, since I only had my 70-200 2.8L and a 2x converter. You really need a 600mm and a 2x, if you wanna fill the frame.

I know it's not NYE, but I shot this on the evening of Christmas Day, 2009. It's a composite of 13 images taken through my telescope.
