I believe I have one extra ticket to see Paul Nicklen (National Geographic photographer), who will be speaking at the Winspear Opera House in downtown Dallas tomorrow night @ 8:00 p.m. Mr. Nicklen's new book, Polar Obsession, is an absolutely spectacular look at wildlife in Antarctica and the Arctic. Who is available and really wants to see and hear Mr. Nicklen tomorrow night?

Update...

Paul was a great speaker and an *insane* individual. It's just crazy the stuff he puts himself through to *get the shot*. It was a pleasure to attend... thank you Lisa.

Side note... the WinSpear Opera House... is FANTASTIC! They were being Nazi's (yes, I'm being politically incorrect... again) about cameras. However, here is one unadulterated shot I managed to pull off. Keep in mind this photo does about 1% justice to the actual building... it's just amazing... ask Joe Lorenzini... who also attended (and is in Colorado skiing as I write this).

Lisa (L Stegall) with Paul:... my apologies for this photo sucking. I was talking with Joe and didn't even think about taking a look at my camera settings... then you were there and I was like, "oh crap, I have to take a photo"... at least I remembered to take the lens hood off or we would've had the big shadow at the bottom. No excuses though... I screwed the pooch on this image.

Some of my friends were assigned by the news to cover it from the start - from being built to the grand opening. I've followed all their pics from the beginning, and I know it must be amazing in real life! Both Courtney and Guy captured some truly amazing pics of the building, and I have been anxiously awaiting my chance to walk around it in person.

It was great to meet Wil and Joe in person. I was a big fan of Nicklen's work before and after hearing what he does to get his shots, I'm just in awe. He is, to put it nicely, truely polar obsessed! He was very engaging, both during the show and afterwards and indulged us when Wil got that shot of us as he was signing my book (thanks Wil, although, ahem, can't you make me look more like those models that Scott shoots?????). Man, do I need a haircut......happening today! The Winspear was beautiful. Looking forward to attending more events there. If Nicklen ever comes through again (you know, it was so tough on him ..... that horrid cold snap we had here temps hovered in the low 30's and all), I encourage you to go hear him and see his work!
