Okay, here is the deal

I have a 70-200 f4L IS

friend has a 80-200 f2.8L

He wants to trade his 80-200 for mine + 200.00 cash

If you had the 70-200 f4L would you make the trade?

I was thinking I MIGHT do it for 300.00

Thoughts please?

I can be one to tell you I LOVE LOVE LOVE my 80-200 2.8 "Magic Drainpipe." Never owned the 70-200 f4 but they are both L lenses and one has IS the other doesn't. One is a little newer but both are still out of warranty and still can be sent to canon for repairs.

I love the creamy bokeh that mine has given me, both with my 20D and now so far with the few shots I have taken with my 50D.

Not sure what you would be using it for, I use mine for a whole lot of Concerts and Sports and Portraits.

Don't think you are wrong in either lens but just giving you MHO on the subject matter.

Well, oftentimes f/2.8 isn't enough for low light when f/4 and a couple stops to handhold courtesy of the IS does the trick. Both lenses are great optically, with your 70-200 being a newer iteration of similar elements.

I'd be more inclined to keep what you have. Never owned it (I have the non-IS 70-200 f/2.8), but I've heard/read more than once that the 70-200 f/4 IS is THE sharpest of the Canon 70-200s.

If you hold of a few weeks, the used market *may* get a huge rush of 70-200 IS 2.8 lenses in the very near future due to the new version II release. I am gonna bet you'll be able to find some killer deals on used ones at this time.

If you own them both, you won't have to decide......Ben
