I had a ball helping with this worthy cause. They tear down the deserving family's old home and build them a new one in 106 hours. I was working for a local PR firm and volunteered my time shooting behind the scenes. It was 20 degrees but wonderful seeing so many folks helping this deserving family. You can google Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to find out about this project and the very deserving folks who are getting an new home. Wish I could say more but I can't talk until after the show airs in March. It is all over the Houston news though for info. You still have time to volunteer your time to help.

So like... seriously though... does anybody else like the original episodes better where they didn't tear down the house, but worked with what they had to make it better... like a makeover?
I'm of the opinion that it shouldn't be called "extreme makeover" anymore, but maybe "extreme completely new house" or something.

I totally agree with you Todd! I am sure I will get stones thrown at me but I think it is way over the top! Can't help but think of how many other people could be helped with the money that is always spent building an extremely custom home!

How does this affect the homeowners taxes that they pay? I guess this is considered a gift that they have to claim?

All I know is if you read, you will find these are deserving folks who have fostered over 85 special needs kids. The rest does not matter. The entire Bay Area is working together on this worthy cause. I take at that. Please see the good in this giving.

I love this show, and I think a lot of the family's are very deserving of a brand new house. Some of these people live in home that should be condemned and ruled unlivable. We watched a heartbreaking episode today of a family with 4 children all with a rare blood disorder, the house they were living in was literally killing them to breath in the air around them. They also needed a sterile room for the special tubes they had to feed there children with, in this case they needed a entirely new home. As for the EXTREME things they do yes they can tone it down a little but that wouldn't make for good TV.
Good for you David for volunteering!!!

Oh... I'm not saying that they're not deserving... I'm just saying that they're not "makeovers". They were in the beginning, but they aren't any more.

I often wonder about the people from the first season that watch these latest seasons. Are they a little jealous that they only got a couple of rooms fixed, and didn't get a whole new house?

It's a taxable event, a couple of years ago Tom Silva and Roger Cook of "This Old House" were at a local Home Depot. They said that any thing that is donated to any of thier projects is a taxable event to the homeowner. I wish my builder could have gotten stuff donated for my house. I think the issue came up once and there is some behind the scenes education, advisement about property taxes.

I would hope they told them about taxes. This will be a valuable home when complete. I shoot again today at 2 and hope it is not so cold.

You rock David! Way to give, and way to suck it up through this arctic front! I hope you post some of the shots you took.
