KR comes in handy if I want to find out about a particular lens -especially if it's an older one, but as far as practical photography advice goes, he's just not that good. I mean he said that you never need a tripod as long as there are VR lenses available.

From what I've seen photography is dying only to those who refuse to get with the times -mostly old film shooters who A. don't know how to use a computer and B. Weren't that great of photographers to start with and would just get close enough and let the labs fix their film.

As for overprocessing, the only photographers that I see who don't care that much about getting it right the first time are the artsy/graphics designers types who shoot everything with the kit lens and built in flash and then destroy the picture with post processing. Everybody else I know takes pride in trying to get the exposure as correct as possible the first time.

But anyway, KR's gotta feed his growing family so he has to come up with stuff to write. That's ok.

I'm not arguing his intelligence or integrity, I'm only saying that his article is way off the mark.

Paul, you've been around long enough to know one ought not to go and hit on a hornet's nest with a stick.

I think the worst part, as many have stated above, isn't the man's editorial viewpoint. The biggest problem is the fact that he aimlessly wanders and rambles in and out of the main topic. It makes it hard to read.

Add in the fact that this man is NOT a writer, or even a decent speller, and the thing gets even harder to read. I know he has spell check, because he has a computer... now, if he could only get someone to proof read his rants for grammar, punctuation, etc.

I see nothing wrong his him stating his viewpoint. It's the same as radio and television talk shows like Rush Limbaugh. They take some extreme viewpoint, gather a few facts to support it and then start babbling off into the sunset. It's how today's editorial commentary is handled.

Do I agree with his statements? Well, he touched on so many somewhat random subtopics that it's hard to NOT find something you can connect with. I think he spouted off a few intelligent comments among all the rest.

"recognize when it's time to get away from the gear, or worse, chatting about it online, and take it out on the road to create some good pictures for a change."

I like Ken Rockwell.
