Does anyone use this? is it for real or is it a poor man's copyright and it should just be done the proper way.

I don't think I would trust this. Basicly it say's you are registering it with them. NOT the US copyright office.

Won't hold up in court, just like the poor man's (i.e. mail to yourself) - neither are considered proof of copyright registration. They MIGHT work for proof of "prior art" in some cases, but not for the "payoff" that a proper registration is (i.e. treble damages, lawyer fees, etc).

Copyrighting the correct way is easy and pretty cheap - you can do a whole CD of images (and they can be small versions) at a time for something like $60.

Well, they don't say registered with whom?

If you go to copyright.gov, it is only $35 for an electronic filing unless you have special handling instructions.
