Haiti - 01-12-2010, 10:17 PM

Just in case some of you haven't heard, Haiti suffered catastrophic damage today due to a 7.0 earthquake. The country has a major place in my heart. I was looking at a friend of mine's photos that he took today, and it's horrible. The hotels we used to stay at, Montana, Christopher and more are gone (from what reports have said, not confirmed yet), I don't know if the people I know there are dead or alive, and the people have suffered so much during their life, this is the most devastating thing that could have happened to them. Anyway, please keep the people there in your prayers. Despite all of the violence, it's a country that touches your soul and makes you not want to leave.

If anyone wants updates from the ground there, a guy I know, Richard Morse of RAM (very talented), is reporting from his home there in PAP. You can follow him and Daniel on Twitter: http://twitter.com/RAMhaiti and http://twitter.com/photomorel

Just this week I connected with a High School friend who lives in Port O Prince.
I have no idea if he's ok or not. Probably won't find out for a long time.
Maybe he was out of the country.

Hopefully so, Tom. I can always find out from my contacts there if anyone knows him to find out if he's ok.

Here is a link to some of the initial photos. Some good photos that tell a tragic story.

Boston.com's Big Picture has some photos from the aftermath. Truly incredible how forces of nature can simply rip though man-made things.

Thanks for the links. Some of those photos are Daniel's and some are Thony's. Thony is a sweetheart. I've run across them a number of times while I was shooting there. Thony came with us on one part of my trip.

Extraordinary photodocuments of a horrific tragedy. I am shaken with sadness and sorrow.

Man 'O man, I toured the National Palace when I went with the Marines in March thru July 2004. It was quite a site to see then, now it's rubble!

Hmmm... China and India have committed $1 million to help Haiti vs. the USA has committed $100 million to assist. Raises some interesting thoughts.
