I Need an Event Photographer FEB 26th in Grapevine

The Mom's league of Southlake and Grapevine is having a charity gala benefiting Pediatric Hospice of Texas. I need someone to shoot portraits and maybe candid shots for a few hours.

Your time is TOTALLY tax deductible and you will be given the proper forms for your taxes. Also dinner will be provided and you can bid on the Auction items. (Nascar tickets, Disney tickets, baby items etc..)

Date: Feb 26th
Time: 6:45-8:45 Negotiable
Location: Piazza in the Village
Pay: Nada (consider it a donation)

Time is not tax deductible. Only the materials used are deductible. So if you donate prints, your actual cost is deductible.

Agreed - I've checked on this several times and only tangible items (such as prints) are tax deductible. Sure you can claim your time as deductible, and TurboTax might let you finagle it around for a deduction, but per the letter of the law it wont stand up in an audit.

If anyone can PROVE otherwise - by posting a statute, legal decision, published tax professional's opinion, etc. - then I know many of us on here would LOVE to be proven wrong on this point !!!

Way to get around it is to have them pay you and then you donate a similar amount back to them as a cash donation but then you get hit with taxes on the earnings but the photographer still will take a negative hit over all this way-better to just give the time and take it as a good karma move.
