Buying a used camera v. Adorama - 01-24-2010, 03:53 PM

I've been trying to buy a 40D for about a week and a half now and I just found a used body on adorama for $529 in V (very good) condition. My question is how would ya'll rate Adorama's V condition? I know they are reputable but I would hate to get it and have 99,999 actuations and all banged up. What are ya'lls thoughts?

Its not directly related to Adorama, but I wouldn't buy used to begin with unless I could put my hands on it first...

What is adorama's return policy for used equipment?

Adorama has a great reputation, they are very solid to deal with and stand behind their stuff. I would buy from Adorama any time.

They often have very good deals on the 40D too.

V is pretty much their lowest condition that is still workable.

I've bought all sorts of stuff from adorama, and only had one older lens that didn't work as well as described. I still kept it, though. Have you also checked KEH's prices and looked to see what other TPF members are selling here?

KEH doesn't have any 40D bodies right now, only a couple kits. I know V is one of the lowest conditions they sell, but does anybosy know what that usually means?

It means it has a LOT of miles on it and it probably scratched/dinged to hell.

I guess I'll see if they can send pictures of the camera tomorrow before I think more about this one... Thanks for the info.

Who cares if it is dinged up? The exterior can be covered in gaffer's tape.

But I promise you that shutter is nearing the end of life.

I've bought lenses from them in "Excellent Minus" that were fantastic and that would have been called "mint" on eBay.

I bought a lens from them in E- also...The glass was pristine and it functioned perfectly, but it was covered in decals and stickers...Somehow I expected better from "Excellent"......Ben

Good Luck, I don't buy from Adorama because of their total lack of customer service.

I've bought all three of my current camera bodies from TPF members and have had really good experiences each time. Camera bodies can fail at any time – including when brand new – but at least I got to hold and do a little testing out before I forked over my money. Also was able to put a face to a name (well, I already knew one of the sellers), read feedback on previous sales, etc. Have also bought a lens off TPF; got one heckuva deal on it, too.

I'm willing to spend a little extra to get something in good condition. There seem to have been a few 40Ds listed here recently.

Yup, I'm want to buy one from somebody here, I'm just waiting for a great deal to come along. The only problem with waiting is I am impatient as hell!
