ugh! moving! - 01-26-2010, 10:48 AM

Sooo, the hubby came back a couple weeks ago. It was all greant and dandy, until he told me he is getting orders to PCS to Ft. Lewis...which is what he wanted, NOT what I wanted. But not much I can do now, is there?

I am not looking forward to cold weather. I am looking forward to scenery. I do not want to leave my job. I have lived in TX for over 6 years, and have FINALLY found a job I LOVE, with people I LOVE to work with. I turned down another position, with slightly more pay within the county to stay where I am.

I'm hoping to stay until school lets out. So far he has to report in May, and it's silly to take my daughter out of school with a month left, especially since she's been kinda struggling this year.

I'm really gonna miss TX.

It would be a tough commute to Wash. State from Texas. The hard thing about the military (and corporate life) is the constant moving. My sister has moved her family multiple times due to my brother-in-law's career and it does always seem that just as you find a job you like and your kid has friends that it's time to change. Sorry that it's a struggle, but on the flip side, my college roommate went to 10 schools in 12 years (her dad was in the oil business and they moved continents like it was nothing). She learned to be very outgoing and to make friends fast, yet she is one of those people who always acquired life long deep friendships. I hope that will be true for you and your daughter as well.

You will LOVE it! Washington is a wonderful place to live! How can it be bad, you have clean oceans, a rainforest, waterfalls everywhere, you play peekaboo with mount Rainer and Mount Baker, you have the San Juan Islands, orca whales, Tacoma, Seattle, You can ski in the morning and have dinner on the beach! Now how bad can that be? My kids still claim that skiing with Santa Christmas Morning was the best!

The ocean is kind of a tease....it's there, but I doubt I can get much surfing, or scuba diving in it. I'm from Florida and I dont fare well in any cold conditions. The skiing and snowboarding will have to take place of the lack of surf. Mt Rainier is nice. We were there in 08 to spread hubbys grandma's ashes.

I've pretty much always lived in the country. I was raised on a farm in FL outside of Jacksonville so I've never really lived in dense populated area and from Olympia to Seattle is very populated. I dont know how I'll do there. I'm going to try and stay closer to Rainier. I saw a lot of open spaces out there with horses and llamas.

It is really not that bad. You will be fine. The trees really help, there are so many even in populated areas they make the sound and others seem farther way. you will find a place that will be great!

There is always something nice about every new place. Lots of rain in WA but beautiful mountains and a lot of photo ops!

Best of luck to you and your family.

I grew up an Army Brat...born in Fort Hood and for the next 18 years moved over ten times, lived in Germany twice, Puerto Rico and several states. It was a way of life that I got used to and actually liked.

That part of the country is very nice.

Sorry about the move but I would go to western WA State in a heartbeat. We have lots of family there and it is so very pretty with lots of stuff to do in the summer and winter and tons of photo ops. Besides, the temps south of Seattle and west of the Cascades is very similar to DFW - just a lot more rain, except maybe this year.

Gather up every ND filter you can find and get some good photos of the sun. You won't remember what it looks like after a while.
