... really SUCKS!
My Doberman that y'all are so used to seeing pics of, had to be taken to the vet today. After some exrays, she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Her heart is about the size of a basket ball. The vet said that the inevitable isn't far off, but we will try meds just to see. She said that Hannah isn't suffering right now, and her quality of life is still good, so there isn't any need to make a final decision now. We'll start her on two different kinds of meds on Friday and well see if it alleviates things a little and then reassess the situation after that. Either way, her time is limited.
This really sucks.

Thank sucks, Chris. I grew up with dogs, usually two at a time, and I have one now. Never gets any easier when they go, but life is usually better with one as a friend.

Hopefully you'll buy her some time. I know how tough it is to make decisions like this.
I just went through it recently when I had to put one of my dachshunds down.
I still have a very hard time looking at her pictures even just talking about it.

I am so sorry Chris. We too just went through a big loss of one of our scotties. She had been with our family since my daughter was 5 who is now in college, She was a intregal part of our family and my daughters youth. I know it sounds kinda of strange but we had her remains cremated. Our vet helped with this process and it was not financially out of line. Tooth Acres in Carrolton performed the service and sent the Remains back to our vet for us to pick up. I would rate the service top rate..
I really hope the medications give you some quality time together.

Our 110 Weim that we had to put down in January 2007 is in a box on our bookshelf. Actually, he's in two boxes. He was so big that his ashes didn't fit into one container, so they split him up. I suspect we'll do the same with Hannah. My dogs aren't just 'dogs' to me, so I completely understand what your saying.

I'm sorry too. We just lost our beloved 14 year old dog in November - had to deal with a very quickly advancing leukemia. All you can do is give him the best quality of life for as long as you can and not let him suffer. Our vet really helped us through this and I hope yours will as well. Ours told us that we are kinder to our animals at the end of life than we are to our people and I think he is right. It's still so hard. We are still grieving our loss and my heart goes out to you.

Hoping and praying the meds give you some more quality time with your dog. Another reason to be thankful we're photographers.

Feeling for ya, Chris.
Lost my Sheppard when I was in my late teens. He was my best friend when it seemed like all of the world was against me.

Thanks everyone. I dont know if she's doing it more, of if I just notice it more now because I know what it is and know whats coming, but she's weezing terribly. We're off to get the meds from the vet here in just a minute. She'll start her treatment asap to hopefully relieve the effects.
