Sexy at F22? - 02-01-2010, 02:12 AM

Sorry, otherwise nobody would read this.
Yesterday I bought a Nikkor 50mm 1.8 for my D80.
For some reason, it will only fire at F22, no other stops.
Can someone please tell me what's up with this?
I get the blinking "ERR".
I bought this little lens to try my first portrait shots with.

Thanks,
David

I am not a nikon guy -- but I have read about nikon lenses that have aperture rings that need to be set to either wide open to work with the camera, or the other way around.

Not sure that helps...

I hope someone chimes in to help you

Kent, mine actually gives the error of "FEE" when the apature ring is set to a manual position.

David, as a NIKON owner, you have access to real people, with actual equipment 24x7 at 1-800-NIKONUX to assist with questions. They have proven very helpful for me in the past.

Kent is correct...sort of :) make sure the manual aperture ring is locked at f/22. this will make it be at the smallest aperture so the camera can use the little spring loaded lever behind the lens to open up the lens as it needs to in the other modes. try it with your finger too to make sure the lens opens and closes properly and smoothly. If that doesn't make the error go away then I don't know what could be the issue.

I'd take the lens off, and then put it back on, and make sure it 'clicks' into place. I've had something similar with a rented lens that wouldn't 'click' and so it wouldn't change, wouldn't focus... and I'd periodically get the ERR mode...

I also had that error pop up when my equipment was cold - like, 35 degrees cold in the back seat of a car. Not good.

Thanks, all. Peter I called Nikon and they said it is supposed to be locked at F22 on the ring, and you make adjustments with the camera. Kathy, I have also had a lens not work right and fix by re-parking.
