okay - my geek girl is gotta come out on this issue...and my 'learn how to take your own dang images' ... just cause it annoyed me that much...

That first photo with Cap and Himmler is ENTIRELY offensive considering the entire creation of Captain America was because Kirby & Simon were SO against what the Nazi's were doing.

This strikes me as just offensive as heck...

Good art should be offensive.

I like the obvious irony they are creating with the images. It reinforces the what super heroes and real life war are really about by combining the two. The reversal of reality, the blurring of lines... that is one way to actually drive home the truth. Like how shows like South Park take details to an extreme opposite to point out the absurdity in things. The idea is great.

My problem is with the execution. Some of the images are just poor photoshopping. The contrast and grain structure is so far off. Some look seamless, but others look like a 3rd grader did it with safety scissors and elmer's glue.

Incorrect.

I find this offensive as well and see no point in posting it here.

If anyone else feels similarly, please report the post using the red "x" in the upper right corner of the original post.

It's of interest from a photography and photoshop standpoint. The artist says there is no political motivation involved, so y'all don't need to politicize it.

You must have missed the thread title and description, eh?

Do you see photoshop mentioned there?

I disagree - I think it shows extreme ignorance on the part of the person who did this.

EXTREME ignorance.

He selected a photo with a guy who was responsible for murdering tens of thousands of people and put a photo of an actor playing Captain America, whose entire creation centered around the fact that his creators abhorred the Nazi's...and made it look like they were just having a friendly conversation.

A friendly conversation... as if there was no need for conflict....as if these two could just 'hang out'.

Or as if there were collusion or deceit on the part of the HERO....because it's a FACT that Himmler was a murdering psycho.

I completely disagree with this statement! It CAN be offensive, of course. But there is on reason it SHOULD be offensive.

A few months ago, I saw one of the series of water lilly paintings done by Monet. Its an incredible piece of artwork that had a profound effect on me, not just intellectually, but physically as well. Yet it is not at all offensive…

With all that said, I don't personally find the work referenced by this post offensive. But I don't care for it really - it strikes me as a bit goofy. But then, I've always been a fan of genuine war time photography.

The work of the Impressionists was considered very offensive by the Salon painters of the time.

"Impression I was certain of it. I was just telling myself that, since I was impressed, there had to be some impression in it — and what freedom, what ease of workmanship! A preliminary drawing for a wallpaper pattern is more finished than this seascape." - Louis Leroy on Momet's "The Cliff at Étretat after the Storm"

I guess 'art' is in the eye of the beholder. Not mine, but perhaps someone else.

Course there's another saying too; just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

IMO, it's a stretch to call the image that started this thread "art". Saying what truly comes to mind here over this calls for political comment that is not welcome on this forum. That fact might not be lost on the OP, and perhaps this thread is meant to bait those of us who are appalled by it.

If he's not trying to make a statement, he's pretty much hit upon the most pointless, stupid photoshop endeavor ever..
