This is a discussion on 13 year old commits to USC - 2015 within the Open Talk forums, part of the General Information category; He is a seventh grader who just gave a verbal commitment to the University of Southern California to be their ...

Exactly - I call "publicity stunt" - on the father, coach of both schools and the kid.
So what he can throw a 15 yard pass as a 7th grader, my friend averaged 45 yards a punt in 8th grade - he works as a police officer and has since high school.
There are a lot of things this kid shouldn't be doing at his age -- chief among them in my mind is worrying about college.
All that kid has to worry about is not getting injured and he will be set for life. He has some of the best education in the world available to him if he chooses to use it, but either way his specific skill set has the potential to earn more than most people make in a life time as a sign on bonus
Heck before too long they will be recruiting them from the day care playgrounds...I am so glad my son loves sports but I hope he can actually continue to be a kid for a while and not worry about college next year when he is in 7th

Gotta disagree with you on this. Thanks to Steve Clarkson, this kid (as an 8th grader) will be the center of a media circus. The parents and Steve Clarkson have thrown this kid into the middle of a feeding frenzy. I am in Texas and have not really followed either the Texas A&M or Texas Tech recruiting class for this next year, but somehow I am now aware of what choices USC has available for its 2015 crop????
So as an 8th grader, instead of relaxing and having a great time enjoying the game of football, this kid is now going to be worried about defensive blitz packages that do not exist at that level, and being criticized for making plays against an 8th grade defense that cannot be completed when competing at the D1 college level.
On the flip side I understand that the Oakland Raiders are looking into Ben Wilson as a possible 1st rounder next year to help shore up their Linebacking corps

The thing is, these are kids, they may never get over 5'7" or 5'8" - you aren't going to play quarterback at USC at 5'9". I stopped pretty much all my growing at 13, granted I was 6'2" at the time, but if people expected me to be 6'7" based on my height then I wasn't going to play forward at UT.
One thing to note:
NCAA recruiting regulations don't apply to him because he isn't in 9th grade yet, so he cannot be labelled a prospect. Legally, USC could pay him as much as Reggie Bush while he is still in middle school.

The only thing I see in this video is that little boy using his head as a battering ram.
When I was in football, the coach warned us that he would pull us out of the game if we did that.
Every time before this boy gets hit, he drops his head down to hit with it. He's going to end up with brain damage or a broken neck.
