Anyone here like the stuff? I am drinking a Messina Hof Cabernet Sauvignon, and its ok, if you like bitter, red stuff. Most white wines taste better IMHO though.

At least you're representing Texas wines. I like BIG red wines, the kind that stain you lips purple.

I tend to only drink Texas Wines, I support Texas when I can.

Born and raised in Northern California. Pretty much have the stuff in my veins where most people keep blood.

Tonight's choice was a nice 2007 Ridge 'East Bench' Zinfandel. I have subscriptions to Ridge's "Z-List" as well as Coppola's Rubicon Club.

Anything from the Mosel valley. Mid to late harvest.

An obscure winery from Oregon, Elk Cove, makes some really yummy stuff.

I forgot the locals. Los Pinos. Very nice!

I like a nice Riesling when I can't get this.

I selected a nice January 20, 2010 Bud Light. Excellent bouquet, strong body, with mild overtones of leftover Brisket which was used to clean the palate before the tasting. I allowed it to breathe for possibly as much as ten seconds before decanting the vintage directly into my mouth so as to savor any sediment as well... I found the taste to be a complex and edgy, yet balanced assault upon my palate.. I then followed the initial tasting with five more just like it so as to truly appreciate the finer points of the vintage...

Texas has decent heritage when it comes to whites, but it seems that the reds are not quite mature enough. Keep in mind that I quit drinking anything alcoholic back in 97 so I can't say from personal experience on that.

As far as I know, the "father" of wine in Texas (Doc McPherson) never was able to come up with any varietals of reds that worked all that well here, but with whites it was a different story all-together. His son Kim is now bottling mostly reds, but when Doc was starting out he really focused on the whites (chardonnay and gewurztraminer were two of the earliest in the region) and put Texas on the map with multiple gold awards for the early chardonnay produced.

Wine is just grape juice that knows somebody.
Give me single malt.

This might explain your opinion on red wines...

I favor Rieslings (German imports over domestics) but I have been known to enjoy a Merlot once in a while, too. I like fruity, sweet wines!

I too perfer the German Reilings. Brought back a whole suitcase full when we did a Germany Photography tour.

However, if you want a sweet Texas Wine, De'laney Vineyards has a blush style wine called "Texas Rose.". The have several other wines in the collection that are sweet. They won several awards for. U highly recommend this one.

Thanks for the tip! I love to try Texas wines, and I've enjoyed a few that I really, really liked. We have a small vineyard just around the corner from my house, actually. They give tours, but I haven't been over there to take one yet. I'm planning to visit Becker Vineyards next month, tho, looking forward to that. Next time I'm at Market St. or Central Market, I'll look for the De'laney.

I like a good selection of wines; however, Pinot Grigio I do not like and I've not found a Pinot Noir I like (there are some that I can tolerate).

If you want to try a 'reasonable' pinot noir, pick up a bottle of La Crema. It's usually well under $20 a bottle and the current vintage is easy to enjoy. In the same vein, the 2008 Chardonnay from La Crema is rated at or above 90 points and is another treat. They both should be generally available at larger grocers and of course better wine purveyors.
