Impetigo?? - 02-07-2010, 07:45 PM

Okay moms & dads - my little one seems to have gotten impetigo. She's had eczema since she was born - I blame her dad - he's allergic to every bloody thing on the planet... *sheesh* But I noticed it was looking kind of weird yesterday - like she'd gotten into ants or something. It slowly spread up her legs and into the diaper area... and now she's got a couple areas around her mouth that look a bit red.

I can call and get her a dr's appt tomorrow - and they may put her on some kind of antibiotic but I'm not a big fan of treating every kid thing with antibiotics. Just seems overkill.

Are there any home remedies that you are aware of that helps with this?

I've read to give her a bath to soften the scabs up - scrub her to remove them and to put antibiotics on it - so I've been slathering her with Neosporin since earlier this morning and will be putting her in the tub after the game is over... or maybe during half time.

I'll have to ask my sister-in-law, one of her boys had it when he was little. I remember her telling me what she was doing for it, but it was several years ago, so I'm drawing a blank on the details!

Have you tried oatmeal baths? Aveeno sells packets of it. Any time one of my kiddos has a wierd skin thing, I put them in a warm bath and it seems to help. I have used it myself when I broke out in hives about a year ago.

Could be hand, foot and mouth disease caused by a virus. Not sure if "impetigo" is the same thing or in the same family.

My oldest son had a strange rash, but it didn't itch him. The doctor said it would go away by itself and that we really couldn't speed its departure. The doc was right.

I did that with her tonight - had one packet left from when I got a bad - BAD sunburn a while back...
