We're planning a trip at the end of May for our kids. We live in Corpus, and would like to head up to the Dallas Zoo.
Our kids are aged 4 years and will be 9 months at the time of the trip. I was deadset on Dallas Zoo, but now my sister says Ft Worth is better. More people say Dallas is better....

Both are very nice zoos, but I like the Ft. Worth zoo a bit better and the botanical gardens are right across the street. Also, the Dallas zoo is kind of in a weird part of town.

We stopped going to the Dallas Zoo many years ago after we discovered the Ft. Worth Zoo.

okay, Ft Worth it is! hahaha
thanks so much! I figured that this forum would have people in the area that could give an experienced opinion about it.
besides the "kids will have fun", which is why we're REALLY going, yeah, yeah... I'm assuming there are great photo opportunities? lol

There are great photo opps at the Fort Worth Zoo. Last time I went (with a group of kindergartners, ack!) I had a wide-angle zoom for shots of the kids interacting with the exhibits and a 70-200 for shots of the animals.
Downtown FW/Sundance Square is family friendly too for grabbing a quick bite. At least during the day.

The newly re-opened Ft. Worth Science Museum is only about 10mins from the Zoo, as well. We haven't been since it reopened, but kids generally have a blast there!

From Corpus... Stop in San Antonio and hit the Brakenridge Zoo, probably a little better the the Ft. Worth zoo, but the Ft. Woth zoo is still very nice.

We do plan on going there later in the summer, just to keep the tradition alive, but hubby and I were wanting to "get out of dodge" on our own schedule and just have fun by ourselves with our kids!

If I had to pick one over the other, FW. But we enjoyed Dallas, as well.

Fort Worth is the better zoo, imo, and beats even Brackenridge, which I've been to more times than I can count! I rode an elephant there back when they were still doing that.
Dallas World Aquarium is GREAT, if you have time to go. Very crowded on the weekends but fun and the exhibits are awesome.
The Science Museum in FW is excellent, too. My son's class took a field trip there when he was in 6th grade. Lots of fun and they have an IMAX theater. We saw a film about sharks, I think it was....pretty cool! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
