It actually makes sense...well except for that whole "if you drop your camera you'll break the $10 filter instead of the lens" myth. YouTube - Photography Tips with Candice Stringham - Volume 3

Picture this, you are doing a shoot with a new model and while setting up one you whip out your large tube of KY Jelly. Her eyes now big as saucers you realize she may not understand there are alternate uses for said item. Trying to allay her concerns you in form her that I only use this to soften the edges.

I'm sorry, but did she say "Hundred dollar lens" by chance? I swear that's what I heard when she compared breaking a ten dollar filter to a hundred dollar lens. I don't even think my old lensbaby lens was a hundred bucks! I need to find out where she is buying her lenses, because I must've over-payed for my 16-35mm 2.8L big time!

Yeah and where did she pick up a ten dollar filter that was worth using.

Yep. $100 lens. So what's her claim to fame anyway? What she's pushing isn't new. Y'all didn't think this was new did you? What other "new" stuff are folks putting out?

I am amazed at how easy it is for (some) photographers to poop other photographers for sharing a tip. It's nothing new if you know it and new if you don't. She may have gotten the numbers off by one order of magnitude - still, for someone willing to experiment she's sharing a useful trick.

Why is negativity so rampant around here?

I never complained about her sharing an old trick. And I was about to get on him for complaining. I think people offering tutorials of old and new tricks can be valuable. They may put a new spin on it (like the water-based gel tip) or just explain it better than before.

My whole comment was about the hundred dollar lens. My comment may sound negative, but there's no way to spin it another way. Unless she has a magic lens coupon that we didn't see, she'd be hard-pressed to find the lenses in her videos for $100 or less.
