I think it was a Discount Tire commercial where they sang "9,999,999 tires on the wall" to the "tune" of "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" ... "Tune" being in quotes because it was anything but in tune -- monotone and off-key.

If Esquire didn't want to put that image on the cover I bet they had a lot of alternatives. They put it there. Does it stimulate your interest? Did it provoke?
Did it repulse ? What is the definition of ART ? ( that's a whole other thread on here somewhere)
Reminds me of my first visit to the Modern in FW. Saw the exhibit of the angled flourescent light fixture on the wall, and immediately thought "Oh sh*t, I'm rich. I have one just like that in my garage."

Yours wasn't PAINTED BLUE !!! That must be the "art"...
I made a comment at a Dallas Art show in front of a bunch of 'artists' that I thought some of the art was 'juvenile'. I learned a good way to keep them quiet for a few minutes. No discussion, just the cold shoulder.
I'm in the process of doing a modern art piece and we'll see what their reaction is.

The value of the original photo will be determined by how many of those outfits sell, nothing else. The target audience is the well-healed woman with $2K to spend on a blouse and skirt, not the photographic community. It is a photo that will be lost in a couple of weeks once its job is done, and is not intended to be a portrait with staying power.

We should look at the photo and ask if it is doing its job, not whether it is a work of art.

I tried selling mine at a garage sale - no takers. It didn't even get picked up by the scavengers when I put it on the curb for the trash.

Please see post #51 in this thread. Perhaps you overlooked that one?

This is the same model as the first one right? I guess you can infer one of two things... the photographer has look they are comfortable with or she's got man hands. (grin).

Anyway, here's the question:

I noticed this shot was taken waist high. Was that for a specific reason? Was it done for the type of outfit that's being shot, was it done to make the model's legs look longer or was it done to fit the model's particular build?

Thanks for any information. This is a good thread Scott.

Joe

On the man hands topic, many times with models that are tall, thin and lanky - pretty much your desired model look - they have long and thin (read defined ligaments and muscles) hands. Many don't like these features. Also, they could have horrible deformed hands like Megan Fox. ;)
