Since I'm in Houston, I have to go across I-10. I
always stop at Cafe des Amis in Breaux Bridge. Love the food and love the building, exterior and interior. Take your camera inside with you. They are used to people taking pictures in there.
Cafe Des Amis
The bridge itself is a pretty interesting photo op.
Be careful going across the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, between Breaux Bridge and Baton Rouge. I'm not sure what the speed limit is there now (60 mph last time I did it, I think), but it is pretty heavily patrolled by LSP. I just move over to the right hand lane, set my cruise control to the speed limit, watch people pass me, and then wave to them on down the road when LSP gets them. It's less than 20 miles long, and you can stand doing the speed limit for that short amount of time. Besides, I think it is one of the great engineering feats in the world, and I just drive along and marvel at how they ever built it. Also, whoever is riding shotgun can get some pretty neat pictures going over it.
