white noise is amazing. My youngest has just started teething and nothing I can do recently has been able to calm her down. My wife and I got iphones last night and I've been going app crazy seeing how quickly I can kill the battery and I ran across this app. Put it on thunderstorm and she was asleep in less than a minute. Abso-friggin-lutely amazing. On that note what is the newest and bestest out there for the iphone? | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. And, when she gets a little older, there are apps for counting, alphabet, shapes and animals. My toddler granddaughter loves them and they are a good way to amuse her at a restaurant or on a plane. I'll have to find out the name, though.

I have the same issue Tom. Have you found anything that helps? My mother had it for years and it wasn't until she was placed on heavy meds for high blood pressure that hers went away.

Wish I had an explanation, and a cure....

Cool app, I found one that replicates a thermium. Not that I'm a musician mind you but I have always wanted one of those things. Also John I think there is an app to instruct you on battery usage and power saving. My ears have been ringing since I was a pup ,you'll get used to that but the high pitched noise my dell pc makes drives me batty.

BOT...I found white noise a while back on one of my last business travels. I'm so used to sleeping with a ceiling fan and air filter running in the BR, that I find it hard to fall asleep when in a hotel. Great app, really helps.

The apps that I think are the coolest or that I use the most:
Weather Channel's Weather app. Better than weather on the 8's
Facebook: Easier to navigate than the big version sometimes
TribuneNews - Out of Chicago: Great paper with great reporting, and even though many of the stories aren't local, the writing is indepth and engaging
Pandora: Nice jukebox for music in any particular genre
DirectTv: Can quickly record a program if I hear about it while I am out with friends
DualLevel: Just freakin cool that this thing can be accurate like this

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

right now im checking the olympics app a lot
my faves are Twittelator pro - if you use twitter it is the best app Glow how do you feel? - its a fun little app that just launches and you tell it your mood and then you see a map of the moods of people around. silly but fun. iheart radio - cool app that lets you stream radio stations comes in really handy since there is no fm tuner in the phone. Also great on trips if you want to listen to your local station. Phonegrafer - photography based app that has some really neat features

Pandora & Slacker : Customize your own station (both also have web sites for doing it on your desktop), the wife and I both use these extensively (although she only uses Pandora). No need for satellite Radio anymore. Also Midomi/SoundHound to ID songs you hear on the radio, then make a Pandora station from them.
Yelp: What I use to find places to eat and read reviews (also UrbanSpoon & LocalEats).
TapaTalk: See other threads on TPF about this: Let's you browse and post to TPF easily via the iPhone.
Photogene: Best Photo editing app for the iPhone. Heck, it even has a histogram level adjusting function.
Quickoffice: now you can make, open and edit Office docs.
Vehical: keep track of mileage on your vehicles for business/tax purposes
Geocaching: Great app for geocaching.com if you are into, well, geocaching.
If you jailbreak your iphone, other great apps are Categories (file folders for apps), Springboard (for making jumps to other pages), iBlanks (for making blank 'icons" to do custom layouts), and 5rows/5columns/5dock to increase the number of apps per page.

I have figured out that caffeine, sugar, and fatigue make it worse.
I thought I had some pretty good hearing loss and went to an audiologist last year. He told me I had virtually no hearing loss at all--and he told me that in front of my WIFE!
Back to the original post of this thread--the thunderstorm app and putting kids to sleep. When I was a screaming baby my mom would crank up the 1812 Overture to drown me out. She soon realized it put me right to sleep (maybe that's where the tinnitus comes from). I've got it on my iPod, though I haven't tried using it to rock myself to sleep yet.
