I've been bouncing this idea around for a while.... a site similar like deviantart/flickr, except instead of just hosting individual artwork (photographs, artwork, graphics), the site would encourage and facilitate
collaboration / derivatives / remixes of each other's artwork. (The site would keep track of the derivatives history and how it branches out)
When you first upload your artwork to the site, you can choose to apply a creative-commons license (so other's can derive/remix it), or not (all rights reserved copyright, no remixing). The site would also allow you not just to upload a image, but also supporting files for each artwork (like raw, psd, flv, lightroom sidecar, etc). The idea came from open source development and github. Except instead of source code, this is version control and a repository for artwork.
Example: I take a few photos out in the zoo for fun, and upload of a few of those photos under creative-commons license allowing derivatives. Another user comes by, takes one of my upload's raw, does lightroom/photoshop magic, and re-uploads it. It's a collaborative community...
Let me know what you think of the concept/idea and anything related.
Rough implementation I just hacked up over the last few days (feel free to play around)
