It's late - computer rebuilding - I'm bored... - 03-01-2010, 11:28 PM

My Windows 7 Release Candidate finally expired today and started shutting down every 2 hrs. I switched back to my Vista install but now have tons of updates to run, have to rebuild and update Outlook, the list goes on.

Thought I was going to bed early tonight...not It's going to be several more hours now, so I'm poking around on TPF while all this runs in the background...hello

It really ticked me off that there was ABSOLUTELY NO upgrade path for an RC installation. If I had realized that at the time, I would have never installed the RC and just purchased the discount Win7 early on.

That aside, I am planning on installing Win7 but I'm in a dual-boot setup and want to be sure my Vista install is completely updated and stable before starting the Win7 reinstall.

But right now I'm having trouble with Outlook (syncing all my new mail from the Win7 system) and may have to do the Win7 install tonight...well, "tonight" is almost over...

I thought it was made pretty clear by M$, everything I read way back when said "no upgrades, you'll have to reinstall."

On an unrelated side note, I really don't miss all the hours spent waiting on Windows Update and such. Easily one of the best parts of switching to a Mac for me, so much extra time I can spend doing other things now.

They do - but the time spent is an order of magnitude shorter. Minutes, versus tens of minutes.

FWIW, I'm not a fanboy type guy -- I have a Mac w/ Snow Leopard, a PC with Vista, and a laptop with Ubuntu 9.10 sitting in front of me that I use all day long. I spend by far the most time on maintenance, on the PC.

No comment being made about someone doing all their own OS installation, installing a beta version and not reading that 'malarky'....

It's not like the Windows 7 install time is long. I think Vista takes way long to install then 7. I was done in what seemed like 10 minutes.
