I agree with everyone, but I'm sorry, I was pissed at JJB when he claims that you can always use flash photography during the ceremony. The majority of the time, in churches, you cannot. I will also say the that Canon Rebel has been compared to the 30d and has had as good if not better results. Just saying. Now, obviously, they shouldn't be out there marketing themselves as professional since they really don't seem to know much about photography, but I disagree with some of what was said by the judge. And, if I needed to, I could make that 18-55 lens work for me, even in that situation.

Sure you could have -- and if you were called on the carpet by JJB you would know exactly how to rebutt his accusations. As it turns out, this woman had no clue how to use her equipment, and she proved that. Unfortunately, this photographer will now think that the only thing she did wrong was not use professional equipment, when in reality that is the least of her worries.

That's true, and as I stated above, this particular photographer did not seem to know her equipment at all. I guess I just got really mad about his stating for a fact that you can always use flash during the ceremony. That is the furthest thing from the truth, and I'm sure the photographer was correct on that point, despite what JJB and the bride said. I do agree with you, however. And, I also don't agree with having to have the best equipment to do this stuff. There are some photographers that can do amazing work with that lens and camera.

The judge even new what kind of camera gear you needed for weddings, which was more than the smart photographer ladies in this video! heheee
He should have asked the ladies if they were legal, DBA, TAX #, and what ever else he could think of to bust them.... that would have been funny!
Where is the TAX police when you need them to check these ladies out?

People ask me all the time if I'm a pro when they see my gear. I smile and tell them that I'm just too stupid to quit spending beyond my needs.

I have an understanding wife - she lets me spend a lot on my hobbies.

I think she's setting me up.

I agree that certain equipment is not required. However -- regardless of the equipment you have, you better have the skills to make it sing. It is obvious from her responses that the photographer did not even have the most basic of knowledge about her craft.

The woman that was the defendant in this case did not do professional photographers any favors by her appearance here, but then again, JJB did not really do us any favors either. Making the whole of the argument about equipment instead of end result was a mistake in my opinion.

Off topic, but funny.

I was at the Cowtown marathon Saturday to watch the kids' 5K. Had my gear at the start, and some guy comes over to talk cameras. As the conversation progressed, he asked if I was there to take pictures of my grandkid.

I was actually there to take pictures of my 5th and 8th graders along with my wife. I went home and checked the bald spot and gray hairs. Life hasn't been the same since.

Talk about one word hitting hard.
