I can't view the video (vimeo and dinosaur puter don't like each other), but I'd like to remind everybody that in the "old" days before digital, all movies were shot essentially one frame at a time.

Yeah, but the 8mm Brownie wasn't exactly noted for stopping every few frames to write to the card, either

Tom how old are you? The First Motion Picture Ever Made - The Horse In Motion (1878)
Which was 132 yrs ago minus give or take 20yrs makes it 152. Ok you are now the "Yoda"of photography.

File under the heading of "What else is new?"

Been done since forever. "Clash of the Titans"-original, the first 3 Star Wars, Mr. Bill, Gumby, etc. were all "animated" a frame at a time.

For those of us who haven't been around since the beginning of time, I thought this was very creative and just wanted to share. No need for the attitude.

That is Super Awesome ... man I wonder how long it took them to edit that ... BUT WOW the quality is great and really gets some creative minds thinking.

I might have to try the focus thing ... that probably took sometime.

Yep -- and what do you think the budget was on any of those productions?

I'm gonna guess that the budget on this was less than 5k (including equipment to shoot and edit if bought new -- much much less if you consider that it was probably already owned before this project was even conceived)

So "What else is new?" would be the ability to make this happen by any small group of people and look pretty freaking cool, along with the creativity involved.

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

I agree with both comments that seem to be coming up again and again. The first... it looks pretty cool. The second... this is nothing new. Dallas photographer Hal Samples did this a few years ago for The Polyphonic Spree and got some nice MTV2 airplay from it:

YouTube - The Polyphonic Spree "Running Away"

Before The Spree (by a decade) The Smashing Pumpkins did it in a video (but from a film-based slr - making it much more labor intensive).

Hi Guys, thanks for the interest in the video!

Budget was 200 Euro, mostly spent on petrol and sandwiches... borrowed a friends camera for the shoot.

PS we are fully aware that we did not invent the technique, we just loved the effect it created and felt it suited the music ;)
