I got to celebrate Holi 2008.

Sat is cranked a few, but they use really vibrant paint.

I wonder what it tastes like? I KNOW some gets in your mouth. Wonder what happens when you catch some in the eye?

I wore glasses so I wouldn't get it in the eye.

It tastes like paint. Guess why.

I've always wanted to photograph that. From what I've seen in the past, the colors are naturally very saturated. Cool stuff!

That was the only day I didn't bring my camera out when I was in India.

I wanted to shoot it, but pretty much everything goes on Holi. I didn't want to subject my gear to powdered paint.

Haha, I bet! Although, I think I would have chanced it lol! When I ran my tour company, this was one of the photography tours I offered. Ami Vitale was going to lead this, but she ended up staying in Kashmir, and we offered the tour there, instead. It was a sold out tour, on wait list, but unfortunately, things got too violent in Kashmir, and she didn't feel comfortable bringing noobies into the field. I totally understood that. I had a hard enough time keeping them safe during a Haiti photo tour I lead.

If I had known I was going to be in India during Holi, I would have bought a used Rebel and brought my 50mm 1.8 for it. I didn't even know what Holi was until a couple days before when people started selling paint on the streets.

What happened to the tour company? That sounds like fun.

Lol! Yeah, that would have been great to have the Rebel for that.

I got tired of running the business side of it. It was A LOT of work! Constant marketing, dealing with people interviewing me and such, and having to work out the ground logistics. It was fun, but I really wanted to pursue my photojournalism. I did get well known, pretty fast in the photo tour biz. Occasionally, I still get people inquiring about tours. The type of tours I offered were VERY unsual, like into Yakutia during reindeer herding, where we would live with the herders. That one was a very difficult one to pull off b/c you had to helicopter in, and it was all based upon weather conditions. I might start it up again some day.

Sounds like stuff I used to do. Like charter a cessna and get dropped off in the Sudan to snap away.

If you ever need a tour guide, let me know. I'm all about the real experience.

Ooh, that's awesome! Right up my alley! I will let you know if I decide to do this again some day. We talked about it a couple of years ago, but then I got into weddings and didn't have time to really think about it again.
