Vet needs help in Carrolton - 03-04-2010, 06:39 AM

A blogger I know (dog rescuer) posted this. I thought maybe someone in the Dallas area would have a contact for a church or other charity Lori could contact on this veteran's behalf. If so, PM me and I will pass along the info.

thanks,
Deanna

Speaking of the phone, Lori Birdsong from Linens for Animals in Dallas, called me this afternoon. There is a dog rescuer, who did four tours of duty overseas, was diagnosed with a stomach ulcer over there, only to get out of the service to find out he has stage 2-3 stomach cancer! He cannot work, only had 16.5 of the 20 years needed to get a pension, has an eight year old son to care for and the VA wants to take out his entire stomach!

This highly decorated veteran has no money for food, no gas money, is behind on his car payment and two months behind on his mortgage. He lives in Carrollton--I believe a close suburb of Dallas. I am hoping even before my story--with lots of photos, video, letter from his doctor to me, and hardship application--that someone will have mercy on him over the weekend.

A bag or two of groceries, ten bucks for gas and a hug would be a very welcome gesture right now. If any of my readers are in that area, know of a church or community group you could contact, etc.,
