Years ago we had a great dog named Brandy, a silver miniature poodle. Dog went to Japan with us, where he took on, and won against a German Shepherd, came back, and lived till he was 17. My dad, is a big, macho, don't want to mess with Colonel Murphy sort of guy. This little poodle was his "buddy dog", and he loved that dog to death.
I was in Germany in the Army, and every now and then I would buy about $100 worth of candy, divide it up between my dad, and the cousins, and ship it. Well, I had accidentally shipped him some brandy filled chocolates. He made the mistake of leaving the candy on the table, not knowing the dog had figured a way up there. The dog loved fudgecicles too.
The dog got into the candy, and ate every one of the brandy filled chocolates, so when my dad came home the dog was laying unresponsive on the floor. My dad (according to my step mom) panicked, yelled at her to call the vet, and he went running out the door, limp dog in hand. He laid down about 15 feet of rubber on the driveway and street, and holding the dog, raced to the vet.
As he is driving there, the dog wakes up, throws up on him, and passes out again. He gets the dog to the vet, and in tears tells him that his dog is dying. The vets tells him; "This dog is not dead, he is drunk!". The dog wakes up, is sick a few more times, they give him some medicine, and off they go back to the house where my dad, big macho guy that he is, pampers the dog back to health.
THe funny part is the dog, after he sobered up, he was hung over, and growled anytime someone walked within 20 feet of where he was laying. My brother and I just laughed and laughed, knowing my dad, and how he would pamper that dog, they snuggled in the same chair, the dog slept beside him at night, and they were the best of buddies. I miss that dog as well, Brandy was a great dog for all of us. But he had some real quirks. He loved chicken livers, but they gave him wind that could clear a room, so when we went to East Texas to visit the grandparents, Grandpa would always sneak him some chicken livers for the trip back home....
