Hey guys/gals. I always see professional studios that have built in coves that are usually a floor and two right angle walls, but are all connected as one piece, very smooth-like.

My question is, do any of you know what these are made of? They look almost like molded fiberglass, but im pretty sure thats not it. maybe just wood platformed floor and regular walls, but with a layer of masonite or something molded to connect them seamlessly? I'd like to consider building one of these in the future, but have no clue where to start!

Check out this video for an example of what im talking about....

Google the word cyclorama and you'll find what you want. Good ones are expensive. VERY expensive...

Thanks! Had no idea that's what they were called. It seems a lot of them are just mostly wood construction. I have a lot of experience building half pipe ramps, and the construction is actually very similar. I may have to give it a try possibly over the summer.

First things first though. Gotta find a space for it!

Yup. Most people call them Cyc's... pronounced "sike". The key is to get the rounded part just right, and with no visible seams. Too extreme of a curve and the cyc does no good. A major newspaper in TX has a studio with a useless cyc. Somebody (a non-shooting pencil-pusher no doubt) ordered one custom made and it was built wrong/too small... wasted a ton of money. They just hang paper backgrounds instead of using a worthless cyc.
