Mmmmm, Gulftown.

New Hexacore Mac Pros Next Tuesday? - Mac Rumors

I'd like a MacPro with dual hexacore processors please...<drool> 12 cores and 24 threads. I bet I could my video encoding time down a smidge.

To bad programs are written to utilize the more cores.

Why wait for an 6, get an 8 core now.

Newegg.com - SUPERMICRO MBD-X8DTL-iF-O Dual LGA 1366 Intel 5500 ATX Dual Intel Xeon 5500 sequence (Nehalem-EP processor) Server Motherboard - Server Motherboards

Same board architecture as the Mac Pro 8 core machine.

AMD is giving away a 16 core rig. Just gotta write a essay on how you would use it.

I'd be interested to see if there's much of a performance difference between the 45nm 6-core intel chip and this new 32nm one. We've got a couple of big ESX servers with 2 of the 6-core processors in them right now and we give them a run for their money.

*Homer Simpson voice* "mmmmmmmm...6 core!"

I'm holding out on buying any more PC parts until USB3 is officially released and supported.

You don't have to wait.....get a board with an extra PCI x16 slot. It should handle the transfer rate.

That thing is insane ... but funny that they named it Gulftown.

Will they be putting 2 or 4 in each hyper-performance computer by christmas ??? that would be pretty neat.

Few more years ... and RENDERS will be something of the past.

I was thinking more along the lines of peripherals like a USB3.0 card readers.

It probably is but like Rich mentioned earlier, many programs aren't written to utilize all of the cores.
