I dont percieve anything to be wrong with them, its just my personal 'issue'. And I know that they have good service. I just dont like paying that much money to someone on the other side of the nation. If I'm buying something, I want to be able to take it back to the counter in my own two hands, and hand it to the person who sold it to me and say "service this please," if I have any problems.

Some people can buy cameras online... I can't. Just like some can buy from Best Buy, or Wolf... I can't. Its a comfortability thing for me.

Now there's a good reason to shop there! Similarly, a local chain here has interest free financing on selected items, from time to time. I snagged a new refrigerator, on a 2 year no-interest deal, nearly two years ago (I bumped up the monthly payment by a few bucks, and it will be paid off in two months, which is two months shy of 2 years), and got a 1 year interest free deal on a 52" big screen which I paid off last December. But, in both cases, I knew exactly what I wanted prior to walking in the door, and did not rely on some pimple faced drop out to steer me toward anything aside from that.

Fair enough, but perhaps the word stigma was not the best one to use in this case.

Yeah. You're right. Probably wasn't the best choice of words....I apologize.

Looked at the BB website and the $6999 is for a 1DsMkIII. They also have the 5DmkII and the 200mm F2 combo for 7499.98. Get a $1000 rebate and you have a nice combo sorta cheap.

Interesting.

Where was the Camera Center in Lafayette? I bought my first real camera, a used Canon IV-S2 with 50mm/1.8 lens, from a camera store in the Oil Center about 100 years ago. They were a Leica dealer. By chance, a Leica rep. straight from the factory in Germany was there at the time. Maybe that's why/how I developed a life long affection/affliction for the brand.

All I can say is that the folks in the Wolf store in my neighborhood know enough to keep me happy. The lady who opperates the film & printing services knows what she is doing. The Saturday morning when I needed a card they had exactly what I needed. No doubt it was pricey, but they had it and I didn't have to drive all over Houston or wait on the mail.

YMMV.

When I was younger, there was a Wolf Camera in our local shopping mall. I remember trying to shop for my first Pentax film camera for my high school photography class, and the only people that worked there were other high school students who didn't know their ass from their elbow. At that time, 'our' Wolf store had more of a 'one hour photo' type storefront, and that is the memory that I have of them; A one hour photo joint operated by less than intelligent high school kids. I ended up buying my camera from a place in Lafayette, La. called "The Camera Center" I believe. And later buying my Canon EOS Elan II from them as well.

When I'm spending that much money on a camera, I expect the person selling it to me to know WAY more than I do, and unfortunately because of the memory that I have of them, I've built a prejudice against all of them.

I also have a stigma about shopping online at places like B&H, but thats a whole 'nother thread.
