Repurposed Basketball Backboard - 03-12-2010, 09:00 PM

This basketball backboard came with my house. I have no use for it, and I rarely give it any thought, apart from briefly considering selling it. But, I needed some place to hang my "Topsy-Turvey" hanging garden, so this is what I used:

I feel a bit embarrassed by this, though. Does this really look as dumb as I think it does?

Too redneck?

The thing is ugly in the first place. It looks like a cheap shower curtain. I need to hang it somewhere. I don't want to drill holes in my house if I can avoid it.

Yes, I read that Florida supplies the majority (80%?) of the domestically-grown tomatoes in this country, but the recent cold spell destroyed most of the crops (about 70%). California produces a lot of tomatoes, too, but they ripen later and are used mostly for processed foods. So, the whole tomato supply to restaurants and such are becoming scarce, and those that are out there are of lower quality (squishy).

What good fortune that I just happen to have a whole garden just waiting for a bunch of tomato plants! I was actually holding off buying more tomato plants, because I figured I wouldn't get much money for tomatoes.

Yes, and holding off adding tomatoes unless one asks for them.

Incidentally, it just happens that that basketball hoop is one of the best spots on my property for sunlight. That's the South-facing side of my house, and that spot gets more daylight than anything at ground level. It will have direct sunlight for at least 11 hours a day, even in March.

I remember the last time we had a tomato shortage ... getting a salad without 'maters is an epic bummer. There are tomatoes grown in Mexico, too, but I don't know what kind of weather they've had (I used to work in a grocery produce dept. in college).

I am so glad that I don't live in an HOA! SO, SO, *SO* glad! I don't need a bunch of busy-bodies to tell me what to do, then charge me a monthly service fee for the the privilege.

I am thinking of cutting that thing down, though. It really looks horrible. It's functionality is beyond dispute, I think.
