Well I have not been this mad in a long time. I just don't understand the legal system. Yesterday at work we had a patient that registered with a DEAD womans social security number. This person had assumed her number he was a male illegal alien that had assumed her number even the credit report stated that it was a number from a deceased person. He had applied for truck loans, house loans, had credit cards under his name and her number, with 5-10k limits. At first we thought it was a mistake, so we clarified with the patients spouse, and she stated" no he has to have that number so he can work its the number he uses". So we called the police to report identity theft. the police came and talked with them and us and stated "yeah there is a lot of legal loop holes with following through with this and we will turn it over to a detective to investigate" AND THEN THEY LET HIM GO!!!!!!!!. I have worked my whole life maintaining my credit. Then they let an illegal alien go when he is using a DEAD WOMANS SS#. I guess I should just assume Rockefeller's or Vanderbilt's social and charge it up and move on to another social. To top it off I am more than certain we will not receive a dime for the services we gave him. Our system is so screwed up!!!!!!!!!!

Eldon,

The mistake was to call the local police, most departments are over worked and not equiped to handle identity theft.

He probably should have been reported to both INS and the Treasury Department (specifically the Secret Service, as they are charged with financial crimes).

I work daily with law enforcement providing data and support on identity theft on a national basis, and i can tell you first hand, the Secret Service is the way to go, the issue is getting their attention - a single case typically does not garner their attention.

it is so very frustrating that this happens.

We attempted to call INS and unfortunately they were closed. But I will find the number for the secret service for next time.

Thanks for the advice Steve.

Obviously,
Tom you would have better luck getting credit cards and and financing a vehicle. Ummm wait.--- If you don't have a vehicle and you don't have credit cards then you cant take pics of nekkid ladies heart stops racing problem solved.

But seriously how many single cases can you ignore since it isn't worth their attention. UGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!

Personally i wish they could go after every single case, and better yet prosecute every case and put the perps in prison for a long time (of course that would really create prison crowding), if they did/could, the the risk would not be worth the reward.

Just like filling out a credit application and provding fraud data, if you get proscuted, you simply say to the judge, I intended to pay, and while they will get a dollar judgement against you, you wont go to jail for fraud, the law says you must provide the fraudlent data for the purpose of not paying, so if you convince the judge that your intended to pay, but simply could not, then no fraud occured (from a legal prespective).

All this sickens me, my son was the victim of ID theft last month, we will be mopping it up for the next year (and i have all the inside contacts). just sick

what a wonderful world we live in, huh?

I just wanted INS to deport him and his family unfortunately they would probably be back in Dallas by the next day. I see it so often. How can we change the system. I'm tired of paying for everyone. Its Time to change.

If he truly was an illegal alien then you have every right to be upset...However it's common practice for SS to recycle the numbers of long dead people...I ran into this in the gun business when calling NICS for a background check...It can be a legitimate number......Ben

He truly was an illegal alien. Barely could speak english. All of the communication was in spanish. He had a texas drivers license and still had his residence card from Mexico. We thoughouly checked it out and even the Police were aware it was the real thing. Can you imagine your deceased father, mother, childs SS # stolen and used. it happens every day.

His wife said " oh he needs that number to work, " They would not say where or how he got the number.

So... if you killed him, would it be murder? Because according to "his" social security number, he's already dead, and unless the courts want to admit that zombies DO exist, you can't kill something that is already dead.

I like that todd, Just not willing to go through the legal challenges. But what I wanted to do is notify the womans family of the card he was using. But then I would be violating privacy laws.

We live in a "Drive-At-Will" state. The government can take your ID at any time for any reason, but you can also give up your ID at any time, for any reason. That makes it all balance out.

Sorry, I'm still annoyed at being fired just before my 10-year anniversary with my former employer, and there is nothing I can do about it, except look for another source of income. When we recognize that all other human institutions require checks and balances to prevent the abuse of power, why do we give employers virtually unrestricted power over employees?

You know why the police won't do anything to the illegal? It's because the politicians and big business don't want anything to happen to the illegal. We are all just a bunch of slaves, and big business needs the illegals to keep providing cheap labor. The illegal is being exploited, just as much as we are, but he tolerates it to get what he wants. Between big business and Liberals who think that giving away our country is fairness to the rest of the world, the value of our citizenship continues to drop.

Sorry, that's probably too political. I'm just annoyed.

1. Don't know many people that have given up their DL voluntarily.
2. I understand about your job, However I don't see any relevance to this thread. So enough with the self pity and focus on getting another one.
3. This is about Identity theft and why there cannot be interdepartmental collaboration to deport, arrest and prosecute the people who do this. It either takes too much paper work, too many loop holes, or single issues that add up to be a multitude of issues. That no one wants to take the time or doesnt want to get involved to correct it!!!!.
