Exclamation Job plea for a friend - DFW only - 03-17-2010, 01:46 PM

A close friend of mine is in urgent need of a job. When I say, "Urgent," I mean urgent. His field of expertise is Executive Software Sales, but at this point he will take just about anything. Please... If you know of anyone who is hiring or if you have any ideas of places where he could apply for something that would enable him to pay the bills and put food on the table, send me a private message with the info. Thanks!

I don't have any ideas, but I will keep my eyes and ears open and let you know if I hear of anything. I hope things go his way soon!

I don't personally know of anything, but have him contact Insource Group and Ajilon Consulting. They are both really good companies with big offices in Dallas.

The guy I worked with at Insource is named Reggie Black - 972.881.1313
The lady I worked with at Ajilon isn't there anymore - 972-980-4184

Good luck to him. Sadly I know only too well the stress of having an unemployed partner. :(

Did he try McDonald's?

I'm being serious here... If it's really that urgent, something is better than nothing, and sometimes one must swallow their pride to put food on the table / pay the bills.

He can also sign up to substitute teach. The pay isn't great, but it's something.

I know how your friend feels, John. Our situation isn't as urgent, but I'm ready to get back to steady work.

@todd - unfortunatly i have been in that VERY same position and mcdonalds and starbucks and the grocery stores and 7-11 wont hire people who have a career. they dont want to spend money training you and have you work for them till something better comes along. i actually had a starbucks manager tell me that! i was floored, but she is kind of right. its hard to dumb down your resume or application THAT much sometimes.

Well, he does spend most of his days networking, job searching, and sending out resumes. I handed him a lead yesterday, and he's researching it. Hopefully, it will turn into something.

One thing that appears to be hurting him is his age (he's in his early 50s). In the sales industry, he's getting outdone by the younger bunch that interviews behind him. He has a very impressive resume...I'd hire him...but it's not enough when you're up against the age factor.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Keep 'em coming!

What I've found in the three jobs I've been a finalist for is that employers are receiving three and five times more applicants than normal. With one opening, it doesn't matter that I'm one of three finalists if I don't get the job. Still frustrating to get that close and not be the one.

We have two kids, one who is in school but had been going to an after-school program for about 90 minutes each day. I'll become Mr. Mom while continuing to hunt for a job, but we'll save A TON of money each month by not having outside childcare expenses. Working at McDonald's or Wal-Mart wouldn't even begin to pay for childcare, so it's just not worth it for me. Most of my photography work is on the weekends anyhow (just need more of it).

The Job I just landed after 8 months of being unemployed had 740 applicants, they hired 9 people. What they are saying is correct fast food and such won't normally hire people that they know aren't going to stay and be happy. The days of just jumping into "something" till you find a job in your field is a very outdated idea
