I do the same, in a Crumpler 7MDH. I few people, including my wife, have dubbed it my "Man Purse", since it goes with me everywhere. I even carry it to work when I am on call, and those weeks I also carry 2 phones and 2 laptop bags...

We've already replied to this question on another, recent thread. I gave a detailed answer on the other thread.

Short answer: Yes, and I'm very proud of it.

No. After all these years, photography has become like painting. It is a deliberate act. when I want to photograph, I get the gear and do it.

Now, on vacation, of course I have a camera.

Never fails. Took it with me all day yesterday and only pulled it out once. Didn't take it today and missed several opportunities while out enjoying spring break with my son. Patiently working with a teen age student driver.

Ah.. but portraits are work.. other beauty in the world (landscapes, found art) are what I do for fun... yes, the hobby/work line is thin.

Heh, I pack the entire kit for vacation.

And just like painting and art.. I never know when inspiration will strike.

That said.. no, I do not carry the DSLR with me everywhere.. too big and bulky. But it was one of the reasons behind getting my Canon G11. SLR like controls and decent IQ out of a point and shoot body... next best thing to a DSLR.

I shoot for fun when I feel like it only. I just shoot way too much on a day to day basis. I need to be able to put the camera down and not regret it.

I have a lot of stuff I like to shoot just for myself that I do, too.

Then some things - like NBA basketball - are work and fun.
Last night:

Taking them are fun. Cropping, captioning and editing under deadline- possibly not as fun.

The whole reason I bought my last purse is because my camera fits inside. Yep, I take it everywhere I go. And usually I have my point-n-shoot too. So I'm never without a camera.
