He had the dimensions right-ish, he just wasn't explaining it right.. Guam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"The island of Guam is 30 miles (48 km) long and 4 mi (6 km) to 12 mi (19 km) wide."
The rest, including the "clarification" was definitely out there.

Dang it... picking on Guam like that... Guam is an awesome little island... we lived there for 3 years... and I can see where adding 8K worth of Marines might 'tip it over'.... lol... the household income there is dismal.... the public schools are really, REALLY bad.... to the point that literally over the summer they moved all the kids that were attending off base schools to onbase schools...
But i loved it... lots to see/do... but i wouldn't want my kids to be attending school there...

When I read the news article yesterday, his words made sense... metaphorically. That many people on a small island would "capsize" its ecosystem, destroying the island. However, once I watched the actual video, I think the man was being literal with his question... thinking the island would actually tip over?!?!? | | | |

The answer is obvious.
If you disburse the Marines equidistant from the shores of the island and calculate the work loads associated with their arrival you should be able to stabilize the island and keep it from tipping. If it should start to tip, it should be relatively easy to mobilize the marines and have them gather at the side that is coming up. Once this side starts to go back down they would have to rush to the opposite shore to counteract this tipping. Back and forth, forth and back.
I think the Marines are up to the task. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
