Houston family on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition tonight 7pm - 04-04-2010, 05:23 PM

Just to let you guys know, a family from the Houston area that had their home destroyed by Hurricane Ike is on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

The Beach family is from my church in Houston and no one has deserved it more than them. They have adopted or fostered dozens of kids, most of which have disabilities. They had a dozen people living in a trailer after Ike destroyed their house.

7pm ABC

Jessica Alba is the celebrity guest, and she donated solar panels for the house.

I helped in a volunteer night shift, it was freezing. . . but spirits were not broken because of it!

I stopped by every night after work to take pictures so I'll be watching. If you see some idiot with a beard with a white lens taking photos of their camera, that's probably me.

I worked on a house here in Fairfield during the summer of 2005. It was for the Tom family. She was also someone who adopted special needs kids (you may remember the 2 girls who did not have any legs). I worked the last day and man was it crazy. Sadly there were some things that happened after the family got home that soured my opinion of the recipients (well one of them)

I got to work with Paul for most of the day, it was a very cool experience, and my wife got one of the "blue shirts" for my troubles.

We were going to do a story on them for the UHCL paper, one of my buddies in class is friends with one of their sons, but one of their daughters recently passed away so we canned the idea, not wanting to put them through anything else right now :(

Rumors are that lawsuits are being filed from other home owners in the area that extreme makeover did nothing to help them. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I wasn't aware that they were legally required to help everyone.

All of the neighbors at the house I worked on had new lawns installed and I believe they were given some sort of compensation for having to deal with all the headaches

I don't know all the details, all I heard was it was 'people' in that area.

Me either, but people have their own agendas and opinions.

Like I said I don't know the entire story, just know what I heard from a reputable source.
