Traveling to Holland - 04-06-2010, 09:34 AM

I have a business trip at the end of the month to Amsterdam and will have 2 non consectutive days for photography :)

I have decided to travel light! First time traveling without a DSLR in a loooooooong time. Just taking my G11 (and accessories) with a Gitzo traveler tripod.

I'm hoping some of my fellow Texas foto dudes can give me suggestions on where to go.... looking to get out of the city - been there, done that. Would love to see the tulip fields and windmills. Hopefully, not to late in the season for tulips.

Thanks!

Hey Paul, I was over there last fall for about a week. The train system is very easy to use, and can get you just about anywhere. The end of the month may be just right for the tulip blooms. I believe that Haarlem is the main city for that. Have a great trip.

See my web site - in my signature - and look at the Netherlands images (in the travel portfolio) - The places I shot them are noted.

Although I have never been there I hear that Keukenhof Gardens are fantastic. It is on my places to see when I get to Holland.

Thanks everyone! John, from your images, which are very nice, it seems the 24-140mm range of the G11 will be fine.

Lot's of good suggestions!!! - will pass on the brownies though :)

Keep the comments coming :)

Breakfast at the airport is expensive, but seriously shoot some windmills because soon they will all be those ugly air-electric jobs. I was sickend to see so many out the plane's window.

I've never been there, and don't know squat about good places for photo ops. But, I would be looking for places where others have not been, and the photo ops would be more unique. YMMV

Delft is a great little town, and it is between Schipol and Kinderdijk. We spent several nights in Haarlem and some time in the Hague.

We also took an old steam train from Hoorn to Medemblick, then a boat to Enkhuizen. A nice open air museum there. That triangle of a trip is NE of Amsterdam.

Your shots look pretty good. I like the ones from Zaanse Schans (you had a much better day to visit that I did).
