Newlyweds frustrated after wedding photos fail to materialize | wfaa.com | Consumer

COLLIN COUNTY — Pictures speak a thousand words, and none are more important than the ones that document your wedding day.

But for the Davis family, the pictures they paid for never came. And the Davis family isn't alone.

Multiple newlyweds tell News 8 they're out thousands of dollars. Avery Bliss Studios was supposed to provide a DVD of high resolution photos four to six weeks after the event.

"The wedding came and went and we didn't have any contact with her," said frustrated bride Kelly Davis. "She wouldn't return our phone calls or e-mails."

Davis and her parents tried time and time again to reach the photographer, who is based in Allen. They even had a lawyer send a certified letter, but they received no response.

Finally, on December 23, Avery Bliss Studios returned an e-mail, promising to have their DVD ready right after Christmas.

More than three months later, it still hasn't come.

"It can't be that difficult to put them on a disc and get them to us," said Carla Narramore, Kelly’s mother.

Jim Narramore, Kelly’s dad, is also angry. "It’s not like we can go and get someone else to produce the pictures or do the wedding over," he said.

The Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan Dallas gave Avery Bliss Studios a grade of ”F” for failing to respond to three consumer complaints.

The BBB said a Bethesda, Maryland couple never received their photos one year after their wedding. Austin newlyweds didn't get their photos until an attorney got involved. A couple from Dallas didn't receive their photos for a year — then only received a few photos.

"It's unprofessional. It's inexcusable. Nobody would ever expect that from a professional person," Carla Narramore said.

Kelly Davis says it’s been difficult not knowing why she can’t get her wedding photos. “All my friends have their wedding pictures. They have them online, on Facebook and in wedding albums," she said. "I don't have anything. And there's nothing I can do to get them."

News 8 was unsuccessful in attempts to contact the photographer, Annette Taylor, through e-mail, phone calls and by knocking on her door.

Kelly Davis’ husband, Bruce, is in the Army. She told us she would like to have their wedding photos in time for her husband's deployment overseas.

But at this rate, she fears that's not going to happen.

I posted this on another thread, so I'm copying it here:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know what's going on either Michael. I had heard that she was sick, and then I heard it was family emegency type of stuff.

We hired her once as an assistant shooter, and she was paid, but I never recieved the images. I didn't have a fit because that sometimes happens.

But here is the deal. Although I like her as a person, she has totally screwed things up for other photographers in the area. You never see a news report on the fantastic wedding photog who cares. You just see the wedding photog who jipped people. It makes us all look like scammers.

Secondly, I really feel for these brides who spent THOUSANDS of dollars and got nada.

If Annette is sick, got behind, overbooked, has a family emergency whatever, she should have taken these simple steps:

1. Answer the phone and tell the couples what is up.
2. Contract out the work. She took the money, so I assume she has it to spend. Or she should.
3. Let area photogs know what is going on so that we can help her and her couples in case she is suffering from something really dramatic. There are emergency networks in place for just this type of thing.

What you DON'T do, is ignore e-mail, keep booking, ignore the phone, ignore the BBB, and rip people off.

Annette wasn't the cheapest photog. She has a beautiful website. I assume she has good sales ability as she continues to book. Her website is still active. If she is that ill or her family problems are that bad, contract out the work and dismantle your website.

Pronto.

But we don't know what is going on because she doesn't answer ANY e-mails, doesn't answer the door, hangs up on you if she calls and doesn't want to talk.....etc.

It's simply NOT COOL.

Oh great, that's who my son and daughter-in-law used last June when they got married in Dallas. They moved to Denver right after getting married so I think they still haven't gotten all their photos chosen. Trying to get ahold of them today to see what's going on.

Personally speaking, I was greatly disappointed with her photos (we had an online gallery to order from). I was so thankful that I also had my camera and got a few good shots.

I'm so sorry that this happened to your son and daughter.

I'm offering a free "day after" shoot to those who got burned. Contact me if interested. But again, I am sooooooooooo sorry.

Here are some customer reviews. Looks like a real scam to me.

You can always contact her at averyblissstudios@gmail.com to inquire about her status.

It appears from the customer feedbacks that this has been her way of doing business for at least 2 years. There is no excusable reason for taking clients' money and not providing what they contracted for.

I'm sick over this. It seems that every couple of months we hear of some photographer doing this to their clients. If you don't think it effects you it does it hurts all photographers.

Photographers pick up your phone and answer your clients questions please.
