The worst email scam ploy to date... - 04-12-2010, 03:26 AM

Seriously, who would ever fall for this? It is SOOO obviously not Amazon (unless Amazon started hiring third graders from the mountains of Peru to handle all their official correspondence). No wonder this email went straight to my spam folder...

A lot of people will fall for it, for various reasons:

quite a few people in this world only scan the emails that they receive and will miss the glaring errors.

even more than that will immediately think "I didn't order any camera!" and click on the link or open the attachment, or as is the case for most attachments like this, click on it repeatedly waiting for the "document" to open. They may even go as far as to forward it to a co-worker to see if that co-worker can get the attachment to open.

After working in direct IT support of end users, it is much more common that you can even imagine.

It is not you they are trying to get with that stuff. It is the little old lady or man that 'can't' remember if they actually did order something... or that person that is new to technology and has no clue...

Which is sad all the way around...

I've convinced my less computer savvy family to not open things like this finally.... I tell them all the time "Never open *anything* unless you were expecting it - unless they called you on the phone and told you it was coming."

To which I still sometimes get the response, "Oh, she sends me stuff all the time - she wouldn't send me anything bad."

I just can't believe how I made it thru the first half of my life without meeting all these barristers and nigerian prince's that keep wanting to meet me or at least my bank account.
