Just a warning and a reminder to everyone to check your banking and credit card accounts.
I check mine via online every day. I checked this morning and my heart stopped when it showed my balance was $108.
Someone has hacked my Visa/Debit card for almost $3000.
The bank has reversed the charges and cancelled the card.
I'm trying to get my credit reports ordered but the site is down.

for me, it was probably an online purchase that got my number hacked.

Ugggghh. Sorry to hear that, it's a giant PAIN IN THE BUTT! I've had it happen to me. I check mine every day and never save any CC information even on sights where I make orders all the time.

yikes, that's scary. Any idea as to the source of the transaction?

Wow Tom - what a pain. Sorry you are going through it, but great reminder to us all to check regularly to make sure we aren't a victim of this. I look at my accounts online daily. This is why.

Don't mean to make light of the situation, Tom. Just instilling a little humor into everyones morning.

This is a very important reminder to all. It's something I don't take as seriously as I should. Thanks for reminding us all to keep an eye on our money and where we spend it!

Tom - I'm going through the same thing as this happened to me this past weekend on my 'budget' card.

Fromt what have been mentioned to me in regards to the purchases at Netflix and Gamefly, that they are testing to see if the card has been cancelled before making a purchase. Once that was done, they ordered a vacuum cleaner from Oreck, which they had froze the shipment. I'm not waiting for my funds to be reallocated to my account.

For next time Tom....I have a separate checking account that I have a debit/credit card attached to it...this is what I use to make all my online purchases...I leave about $150.00 in there just in case...but transfer money as I need to, into it to make online purchases....also..anything online I always purchase it as a credit card and for safty..if it lets me use PayPal I use paypals.....

Tom I am sorry..but at least you caught it...and its not 3 months later....

Are you sure you didn't go on a "sleep bender", did you check all of your suit coat pockets for unknown thongs?

I'm glad that your bank did right by you, we hope!

The final nail in the credit/debit online use coffin. I got a call from American Express on a Saturday morning asking me if I was shopping online. "Nope." "We are closing the account. Overnighting a new card to you." "Thank you so much for being vigilant." 2-3 weeks later Amazon let 2 $100+ charges go through on the closed account.

No more for me.

Tom,
I'm glad your bank made things right.

I had something similar happen recently. I went to Amazon.com and BHPhoto.com. Looked the next day and my account was completely empty.

Tom,
I'm glad your bank made things right.
Sadly, Wayne, it isn't just online. Someone got my husband's AmEx # - we think probably at a restaurant. AmEx called us in a very similar call - someone was using the card number at a gas station. They closed it immediately. They wouldn't tell us what was suspicious about the transaction, but I'm guessing they didn't know the zip code or something to key in at the pump. Very frustrating. I still buy/bank online, though. No matter what, it's the wave of the future and it's hard to go back.
