Some really "WOW" photos there. Seems like there is a lot of earth movements this year, a high number of strong earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunami's, the glacier in Peru dropping off a big chunk and flooding...makes you wonder about things.

With all of this news of earth quakes lately, I decided to do a little comparison of how many more major eathquakes that we have had this year vs other years, and wondering why we have had "so many more"

Has there been an increase in earthquake activity? | The Geology News Blog

Lots of statistics on that site.

CERI Public Awareness - Earthquake Facts & Follies
lots of plain english facts on this one.

Fact is -- not any more 6.0 and up this year than any of the past years. Had a major 8+ in Chile, which apparently there is an average of ~1 a year.

The big one in Haiti only measured in the 7 range.

Strangely enough, the yearly average for magnitude 6 and above is one every 2.63 days.

I guess the media is having a slow year and needed something sensational to talk about while Tiger was in rehab.
