iPhone Battery Life - 04-20-2010, 02:04 PM

Is anyone with an iPhone having issues with battery life over the last several days? I know it is not great to begin with, but a co-worker and I were discussing yesterday that, just recently, battery life seems much shorter than usual. Neither of us has made any settings changes or had unusual talk times, internet off, wi-fi off, location services off, etc. etc., all the normal battery saving precautions. I have a 3G, his is a 3Gs. Under normal conditions, a fully charged battery for me will last 1.5 - 2 days. Yesterday, the phone fully charged at 5 PM was totally dead at 6 AM with no use.

If mine wasn't on power saver mode, it's dead within hours. One conference call usually eats up 2/3 of the battery. Talk about i-crap!

It's a rechargeable battery cell, so it's just matter of time. Unfortunately for most of the i-devices with non-replaceable battery there days, you have to pay fees and have them replaced it for u. Hope you still have the warranty and the battery failed more than their spec.

My battery lasts all day. Two days... nope. I don't know how much I use it, but it seems like I'm taking a call or checking email on a regular basis.

It depends on how much you use it. 3G really sucks the life out of the battery, too. I charge mine about every other day.

i know there are a lot of things you can do to prolong the battery life.

No bluetooth searching, no wifi, no 3g, etc.

I guess that's one good thing about my phone is I can turn all that off and get 4 days of battery life (and yes it's a touchscreen phone).

AT&T is working on switches/towers in various parts of Texas tight now. You might be in an area where they are doing alot of work, and that can cause the phone to bounce between 2G & 3G, which sucks the battery down.

They did it in a cell area where I am in SW Houston about a month ago and it was weird.

Yeah, signal issues would be the prime suspect if you are suddenly experiencing short battery life.

Check your Idle time under your settings app. My wifes was draining in a matter of hours. check her settings and sure enough. Fixed it with a flip of the toggle

You might have a bad battery, But, phones are not the same as they were 8 yrs ago. We practically use the crap out of them. Email, MMS, SMS, IM, Internet, Internet sharing, not to include the games and app downloads for all those gadget freaks. We have the almost the whole world in our fingertips. If you tend to disagree, what doesn't the iphone do. Moral of this post is. If we were to just talk on the phone and not all of the above, heck my battery would last days. But the temptation of such a good way to view everything in your palm is too good. buy an extra charger, keep one in your car, at the office and home. that's what I'd do. Just sayin!

I've noticed a lot more battery drainage than usual immediately after I updated to 3.1.3. It could be caused by the work AT&T is doing on the towers that someone mentioned above, because I've noticed some days are really bad and others are not. I thought it was weird that it started happening right after I updated the OS, tho.

When I upgraded to 3.1.3, all of a sudden I couldn't complete a call, and incoming calls were dropping out before I could answer, and I was having all sorts of problems. Tried looking up issues on the web, but didn't find any -- turns out everyone in my area on ATT was having the same issues and not just iphone. The upgrade had nothing to do with it at all.

It wasn't just one tower either -- I think it was further up the line... Never did get a straight answer from ATT but they did let me know that it was a system problem and not a problem with the phone when I went in to switch back over to my old blackberry

Then I guess it really is the tower work. Yay for working on the towers, boo for it causing my phone to have issues, LOL! It has improved over the last week, tho. I updated the OS week before last, and the first few days were really bad, but this past week has been ok.

I hope that the new version will have a better battery or settings that don't use it up quite so fast. I'm usually good for 2 days.

With SBSettings I can turn crap on or off instantly... If I just turn on the things when I need it, I can get 2 almost 3 days with moderate usage.... Also I am using beta 4 and it's my battery life is a little better than 3.1.2 or 3.1.3....
