Rig in peril... - 04-21-2010, 10:58 AM

Red Adair said the worse thing about offshore fires were that the bodies wouldn't totally burn up and you would have to step over them. Opposed to land where you would just find a ring.

Anyways, since I didn't actually take these pictures, I figured I would pass on to everyone here in the open talk forum.

Some images from this incident. I worked for this company for while...on a different rig. My college buddy was on this one.

Hope they find all the folks who had to ditch into the water.

Man $600 million+ in flames!

Yes very sad !!! My son works for one of the supply boat companies down there and from the pictures I can not tell who's boats are spraying the water. This is really tough. It is amazing anyone could get out of this alive.

worked for Sclumberger for a while, and all the off shore survival training we did basically taught us one thing...you never wanna be on a rig when there's a fire...

i re-read what i wrote and...my college buddy used to work on the rig, he's in the middle of kansas last i heard.

when i first started with this rig contractor, i had to go through firefighting training. well, they would make me get all decked out in firefighting gear everytime a helicopter would land. my directions for if a fire was to break out were, aim the hose over the top and run like hell.

it's not a good situation...i'm just glad this didn't happen during the couple of years i worked offshore.
