Cool 2 mile camera remote- how to make - 04-25-2010, 04:02 PM

YouTube - Weekend Project: 2-Mile Camera Remote
Make: Online : Weekend Project: 2-Mile Camera Remote (PDF)

this requires some cracking open a cheap point and shoot Digital or an older digital slr that you don't mind exposing the guts of along with a couple 2 way handheld radios-probably could be done with cell phones too but the walkie talkies are cheaper.

One commentor on you-tube said that you could also use this to detonate a bomb but i bet they already know that.

A better idea is to use the 2-way radio with a friend who is standing at the camera. That also helps prevent the camera from being stolen.

One use is if you send your camera up on a tethered balloon, since there is no way to send a person up or some other way to get the camera up high in the air or if you throw a cheap camera off a cliff with a parachute and you want to shoot as it goes down.

Somebody did something similar to this during the redbull air race.

You can actually buy his and they have 20 mile range:
Long range radio camera trigger | RobertBenson.com

Had the setup and photos he took somewhere using the triggers but I can't locate them.
