How odd! I know that's on a mountain, but it's still out in West Texas desert, and no mountain in Texas is all that tall.

That's interesting information. I'm just used to having the Sandia Mountains in my back yard. They are only 10k feet above sea level (5k feet over the base), and not all that tall.

A lot of the "peaks" in the list are in Big Bend. The funny thing is that Big Bend has eroded so much that the peaks don't really stand out... and once you've spent time in Colorado's Fourteeners, our mountains don't seem very mountainy... at least not until you start climbing them

Yeah it isn't anything like camping at Molas Pass at 10,900+ Molas Pass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The campground there is so cool! But climbing up some of them Texas peaks will get you winded.

No doubt about that. I hauled a 60 pound pack full of water, food, and camera gear to the SW Rim at BiBe a few years ago and it was quite the hike. I want to do it again with a lot less crappage on my back. I think that I can get up and back in the same day without too much trouble.

Here's a photo I shot of the tallest peak in Texas, Guadalupe Peak:

If you would like, I can set up a camping trip to Big Bend National Park. I just need some way to have my gas cost covered for the trip, and it wouldn't be until about October.

And your point is...?

Yeah, OK, so you won't want to do it all in a day. But, after driving 550 miles to Guadalupe Peak or 590 miles to Big Bend National Park, what's another 280 miles? In fact, one could catch Guadalupe Peak as a minor detour on the way back home.

Dallas-BBNP-GP-Dallas = 1420 miles
Dallas-BBNP-Dallas = 1180 miles

It does seem unfortunate that while in the area, I would not take a little jog over to Deming, New Mexico, to visit my mother. That's 210 miles from Guadalupe Peak, in the opposite direction from Dallas.
