I took mine there a couple years ago. No big deal. I'm going to Cabo end of the month. Taking the m9 and maybe the d700.

Your hotel may have an in room safe, if so, use it as needed, but they may be relatively small depending on your equipment...

If your worried about locking up the stuff when your at dinner and such, just wrap your bag in a pacsafe and wrap the cable around something (I stuck mine through the frame of the sofabed). I had no problems leaving the bag in the room. Just play it smart when your on the town, don't flash a bunch of gear... and remember to have fun doing your thing.

I love the bars with all the swings for seats....

As a suggestion, use black electric tape to cover all the "Nikon" logos on the body and lens caps.... If they can't identify it, the chances are that they won't want to steal it.

A fellow traveller that carried his D200 while travelling around the world has given me the advice.

I have done this once when travelling to Spain where it's loaded with pickpockets.

Was in Play three years ago.
Never thought my equipment was not safe.
Keep it in your possession and don't take it into the water.

My boss went to Cancun last summer and when he got to the hotel they asked him if anyone had tried to abduct either him or his girlfriend. They stayed in the resort the whole time.

We went to Chichin Itza too... also wrecked our rented car after we were hit while at a stop sign. The guy just aimed right for me and hit us....

Policia were on scene in less than 30 seconds, as were the Federal Police. I had to surrender my passport and go to the magistrate to pay for the damages that my (stopped) little toyota corolla or whatever it was caused to the guys rustbucket pick-up, and the subsequent street clean-up they would need to do. Uhhhhhh

I was lucky that I always get the "insure everything" option when renting overseas....

If your room doesn't have an inroom safe many have lock boxes at the registration desk where you can leave valuables safely.

If your going to high volume tourist areas just be sure to keep the camera very close-don't hang the neck strap on a chair back, don't just set the camera on the table, be sure that if you go to the restroom that someone is paying attention to it at the table etc.

Also be sure that it is listed on your homeowners or business insurance policy and double check to see if it is covered out of country.

I shot a wedding there and no problems at all. My room had a safe, although I didn't use it. Just take the same precautions you would anywhere.
