I've had 25 cent hot dogs before. They aren't worth the money. However, a cheap hard drive might be...

I think BP may want to use a few thousand $.25 HD to plug that leaking well.
May head over there to see if anything worthwhile is on sale.

Ask them about the used TV they tried to pass off on me as new only to suggest it came from the factory that way; partially re-wrapped, packed with dirt, the accessories bag stapled closed and with a different serial # from the box it was in. Don't get me started on Fry's.
Check that hot dog before you eat it.

Everyone has a bad experience with any electronics store. Have a friend who just bought a Denon receiver from Best Buy only to get it home and the receiver inside was not the receiver that the outside packaging said it was! He had to fight with them to correct the mistake only for him to have to drive to another Best Buy to pick up the correct one.
Fry's has been pretty good to me though.

| True. Sometimes things honestly get screwed up, or sometimes an employee just may not "get it". Unfortunately these occasional hassles have become part of life.
But for me it was the fact that Fry's - 1. was TRYING to be dishonest. 2. When confronted, not only denied it, but accused both myself and the manufacturer of being dishonest. 3. When proven wrong would still not take ownership of the problem. BTW, this was elevated up to the store manager (Plano) level and beyond that to corporate. The assistant to the CEO seemed quite interested at the time, promised a resulution, but ended up doing nothing.
Fry's may have been pretty good to you and others (YMMV), but for me, no thanks. As consumers we all take a stand sometime. I now shop at Micro Center. Of course they're not perfect (sigh). I'm on a first name basis with a couple of their managers (LOL). But Chris and Sarah are kind and courteous, solve problems and are part of what seems to be an honest outfit. I'll stay with that.

Fry's has been known to put returned opened goods back on the shelf and has tried to sell them for new, I think a couple years ago one states attorney general went after them-really look over any package that you pick up off the shelves from them if it isn't something very generic like paper or toner and look for any indications that it had been opened before. I've known people to open their boxes up in Fry's parking lot before leaving.
I've bought from Micro Center many times and it has always been pleasant.

from the for what it's worth dept...
Any returned product that is return to stock/shelf (RTS) *should* have a 5% sticker discount (SD) sticker on it. It is the returns associate's responsiblity to see that this is done. A few items aren't in the SD program and hence won't have a SD sticker (for example, memory cards!) but will discounted upon request or if put on a "quote". 5% is the maximum discount (altho occasionally, very rarely it will be more). Each open-box item carries the same warranty as an unopened one.
Occasionally, for different reasons, some items will slip through the cracks. This may be an honest oversight by the CSSA and unfortunately sometimes a lazy associate will simply "forget" to do the sticker.
You will also have the cashier that overlooks the sticker and charges full price for a stickered item...the CA's at the door miss it and the customer doesn't notice it until he gets home and assumes the worst...
In any case, at any time you question your purchase, before you leave the store, simply take it to the returns counter and ask them to open it so you can inspect it. Of couse if the item is one of the restock if opened items or non-returnable if opened (such as software or movies) ASK FIRST if what the consequences are if it is opened, even if in front of them before leaving the store...
